Imposing Too Few Restrictions When It Comes Term Paper

¶ … imposing too few restrictions when it comes to parenting. Children want boundaries and too few restrictions do not give the child what they need. Too few restrictions may create problems for the child. TOO FEW RESTRICTIONS BRING HEARTACHE

Too few restrictions bring heartache. Structure is important in the lives of every child. Restrictions are important in guiding a child to make the right decisions in life. Children look to the parent or teacher to guide them in making choices. Without these restrictions or rules, the effects will be children who make poor decisions that may affect their entire lives. Whether the child is two or eighteen, the child wants the parents to guide him/her throughout the day. There are so many choices, decisions, problems, etc. The effect of not having enough rules is a child that might destroy his/her life. Restrictions are mandatory for a child to be productive and happy.

The mother of Joanna loved and cherished her after losing two stillborns. She often let Joanna make her own decisions and failed to correct her. She spent most of her time with Joanna and failed to teach Joanna how to make friends and how to act socially. Joanna was loud and often obnoxious. When Joanna started to school, she continued to loud and obnoxious. Needless to say, Joanna had a difficult time making friends. The effect of her mother not placing restrictions and rules on social conduct is a fifteen-year-old teenager who still lacks the social skills that she needs in life. Her mother failed in making rules concerning her loudness and in helping her to make friends. Love was important to Joanna, but she needed guidance and rules. She needed to be taught social...

Joanna lacked the ability to adjust with her classmates. She made "A's" in her education and she got along great with her teachers. She lacked the ability to make friends her own age. The effect of her mother not giving her rules about how to play with other children is the lack of ability to make and keep friends.
Another example of too few restrictions can be seen in Rocky. Rocky was born an addict. The grandparents would have to raise him. They felt sorry for him because he had been born an addict and had a lot of problems. Often they would not deny his wants or demands. Each day those demands seem to grow louder and louder. Rocky was allowed to hit his grandmother without getting spanked. When Rocky started to school, he tried acting the same way with the teacher and students. Needless to say it did not work. Rocky struggled with school and had to be placed in special education. Rocky's grandparents continued to fail to correct him. Finally, one day he broke into a store. Rocky was placed in a hospital setting where he could get structure and guidance. The love that Rocky's grandparents had was not enough without guidance and instructions. The effect of Rocky not having rules is the fact that he now is in prison.

A child wants guidance and direction. They need to be taught how to act in different environments. Rules are important. Both Joanna and Rocky were loved, but not in the right way. It takes love to correct a child. Love without correction is not truly love. Love that corrects and teaches is truly love. Children ask to be corrected. The effect of children who do not have limits can be seen in the inability to be a healthy adult.

A child that…
